Apex MW-100 Mini ITX Case Review

Specifications

The mini-ITX standard, developed in mid-2001 by VIA, has long been adopted by specialized and embedded markets, and still holds a large following of tweakers and modders; but the mini-ITX standard has only just recently began to reach the broader mainstream markets. This progressive push has been spearheaded by a number of advances made by VIA, and recently Intel, in the form of the highly successful Atom processors. The latest generation of mini-ITX motherboards provide more features and better performance than their predecessors, but, most importantly, their plummeting prices have made these tiny systems far more accessible.

Because of all the advantages offered by these small form factors, such as lower power consumption and highly integrated features, these boards can easily become the backbone for any number of projects from home theater PCs to low-power (green) desktops. With the ever rising demand for these mini-ITX systems, a suitable computer case has become a critical aspect of the system build, more so than with the standard micro- or standard ATX. Generally, mini-ITX cases have been designed for specialized markets. While well crafted, the custom nature of these cases reduced overall compatibility and made budget offerings few and far between. In hopes of shedding more light on this growing segment of the market, we here at UpgraderGuides will be examining the MW-100 mini-ITX case from Apex Computer Technologies.
